Is YouTube Launching a Music Service?

Youtube-music-awards-nominees
Like Spotify, the report said, the music service will have a free tier (with ads) and a premium tier (without ads). This would push the Google-owned video service in a new audio direction, with music available for streaming or caching on all platforms; however, YouTube would still hold on to its roots by offering music videos as part of the service.

YouTube sent out this canned response to multiple news services, whether they'd asked about the report or not: "We’re always working on new and better ways for people to enjoy YouTube content across all screens, and on giving partners more opportunities to reach their fans. However, we have nothing to announce at this time."

Fortune reported a similar story in March, and said that the service would be launching "later this year."

How to Create YouTube Videos That Connect With People

Are you looking for ways to improve your YouTube videos?
Do you want to increase your YouTube channel views and subscribers?
Keep reading to discover five valuable tips to enhance your YouTube marketing.

Simple YouTube Strategy

Here’s a simple strategy.
Want to integrate YouTube into your online marketing strategy effectively?
Then you must create and share valuable video content that’s relevant to what your ideal customer is searching for on the Internet.
This might be an answer to a frequent question, a tutorial or a customer review of your services.
When you use video strategically, YouTube will generate leads for your business.
In this article I’ll show you five styles of YouTube videos that will get you the results you’re looking for on YouTube.

#1: Turn New Viewers Into Subscribers With a Trailer Video

YouTube Trailer Video lets you feature a video at the top of your channel when nonsubscribers visit.
Why not use this space to tell new viewers who you are, what your business is all about and what they can expect from your content?

Your YouTube channel and trailer video as seen by nonsubscribers.
Here is a simple, three-step outline to help you create a 45-to 60-second video that will convert viewers into subscribers who will get alerts whenever you post new video.
  • The Intro—Welcome new viewers to your channel by introducing yourself or the name of your business, then share notable credentials that will help instill confidence in the service you offer.
  • The Why—To captivate your audience, tell them what benefits they’ll receive from your videos, then share why you do what you do. This is where your personal story comes in and will go a long way toward creating a personal connection.
  • The Call to Action—Wrap up your video and tell people what to do next. Tell them how to subscribe to your channel. If you have a web page or blog you want them to visit, give them the URL!

#2: Share Stats That Matter to Benchmark Yourself

Position yourself as a reliable source of information with a video that presents numbers and niche market data in a unique, easily sharable way. People love statistics, and if you gather and present good data, they’ll share your video with colleagues who are interested.
About two years ago, I uploaded a simple two-minute video to share the latest statistics about online video, entitled YouTube and User Engagement. The original received 16,000 views and the follow-up, Video Revolution 2.0, now has close to 40,000 views.
video revolution image
Video Revolution 2.0 shares the latest statistics about online video and has close to 40,000 views.
Use these three simple steps to create your own stats video and share important, relevant information with your market:
  • Collect eye-opening figures and data about your market.
  • Find an awe-inspiring song over at Premiumbeat.com.
  • Hire an Adobe After Effects animator at oDesk to combine the facts and figures with graphics and music.

#3: Share a Customer Success Story to Establish a Good Reputation

There are few things more powerful than a first-person testimonial that tells how your product or service made a customer’s life better.
This doesn’t have to be polished and technical. You can record customer interviews with your mobile device or on a Google hangout with a simple webcam.
Better yet, ask your past customers to put their own success stories on camera and send you a link to their video so you can share it on your own channel and add it to your channel’s favorites.

Showcase the stories of your customers through video.
Here’s a simple formula you can use to help customers bring their stories to life for you.
  • Intro—Have your customers introduce themselves so people trust they’re real humans.
  • The before—Ask them to share what need led them to search for your product/service.
  • The shift—Remind them to tell viewers why they chose you.
  • The after—Encourage them to share how your product/service has made their life better.

#4: Answer Questions to Demonstrate Your Knowledge

Your potential customers are going straight to Google to find answers to their questions. Claim your Google Authorship, then connect your Google+ profile with your YouTube channel and use video to deliver those answers. You’ll become a go-to Q&A resource in no time.
Share your knowledge with little things and people will remember you when they need to buy big things.

To get a jump-start on the questions your customers ask most, use keyword research tools, review forum questions or send out a survey to your existing subscribers and customers. Use these questions to record a Q&A library of videos that are short and to the point so people get what they need quickly. Provide real value, avoid the fluff and don’t hold back!

#5: Teach People Something to Create Top-of-Mind Awareness of Your Services

If you do a quick search for “how to tie a tie,” you’ll find videos at the top of Google’s search results. Some of these videos have more than 13 million views.
Rather than writing a text-based article with a series of pictures on how to do something, record step-by-step tutorials, demonstrations and how-to videos. Your viewers can pause the video as needed and that makes their lives easier!

Find out which “how-to” keywords your customers are searching for on Google!
If you’re camera-shy, the good news about tutorial videos is that the “star” of your video is the product. For online or software tutorials, screen-capture software likeCamtasia or ScreenFlow will record your screen and you don’t even have to be on camera!
Here’s a recap:
The ONE Element Every Video Needs
There are more than five styles of videos that work on YouTube and you don’t have to limit yourself to the options in this article. Find the best fit for your business, theninclude the only essential element every video needs: your Call to Action.
Provide value and communicate a clear and compelling call to action that inspires your viewer to subscribe, purchase, visit your website or share the video they just watched and you’ll see results in no time.
What do you think? Are you including video in your online marketing strategy? Which types of video work best for you? Please leave your questions and comments in the box below.

Should You Post YouTube Or Native Videos Onto Your Facebook Page?

Although Facebook has its own video uploading feature, allowing businesses to post videos on their Page, many companies still prefer to post links to YouTube videos on the site. In fact, over a five day period in January, analytics site Socialbakers registered 3,684 YouTube links compared to just 458 Facebook videos posted on Facebook.

Of course, this is completely understandable. Having created a video intended for online sharing, a company will normally post it on YouTube first. It’s then easier and quicker to post a link from the video on YouTube than it is uploading it all over again. However, Socialbakers’ study revealed that although there were far fewer Facebook videos posted on Facebook than YouTube videos, they got almost the same number of likes and even more comments. The YouTube videos, on the other hand, were shared more often.

Presumably, the Facebook videos received far more comments on Facebook because commenting on Facebook is easier than on YouTube: you’re already logged in and the other comments on YouTube, which often ‘flame’ videos, can often dissuade you from contributing. If people want to comment on a YouTube video, they can do it on YouTube.

There could be any number of reasons why YouTube videos are shared more frequently. I would guess, though, that it is mostly because, seeing as companies can post other people’s YouTube videos instead of just uploading their own, users are more willing to share them: they are more diverse, and users won’t necessarily be directly advertising a company by sharing their YouTube videos. Of course, the company’s name will still appear in the share.

Facebook videos have a lot of other great features that are lacking in their YouTube counterparts: a ‘Like Page’ button can be included in an uploaded video, but not on a shared link; people can be tagged in videos; uploaded videos will appear in a Page’s gallery instead of being pushed further and further down the timeline; put simply, Facebook videos just look better on Facebook.

The main advantage of a YouTube video, apart from the speed and ease of posting a link, is that it can be shared across all social media platforms. You can then measure how many views the video gets using YouTube’s analytics software. Also, any YouTube video you personally create and post on Facebook will link back to all your YouTube videos on your channel.

So, which is better, a Facebook upload or a YouTube link? In my opinion, if you have the time, you should upload any video you create for your company to both YouTube and Facebook. YouTube links look ugly in the timeline and News Feed, and they quickly disappear, whereas Facebook uploads just fit, sticking around in your Page’s gallery.

Of course, you’ll miss out on YouTube’s analytics software, helping you measure how popular your video was across all sites, but you can just monitor Facebook’s own analytics and add it to your YouTube views. By uploading a Facebook video, you will also encourage more commenting and engagement on your Page. If you don’t have time to upload your videos to both sites, then uploading to YouTube is clearly the better option, but if you do have the time, you’ll definitely benefit from uploading every video you create twice.

Stay vigilant though, Facebook’s upcoming video ads could turn public opinion against Facebook vids. If you still can’t decide, our graphics department has cobbled up a quick table showing all the pros and cons of Facebook and YouTube.

Selling on Social Media [INFOGRAPHIC]

With people spending a significant amount of time on social networks, companies are also flocking to the different available platforms. This is as simple as businesses going to where people are, hoping these people will listen to their message and eventually buy products.

This infographic from Top Web Design Schools says, however, that not all social media platforms are created equal for marketing to audiences.

Nonetheless, 79 percent of marketers say that they have integrated social media into their traditional marketing activities. Furthermore, 86 percent of marketers say that social media is important for their business.

What, then, are the social networking platforms used by marketers?

“Companies use a wide range of types of social media, from Facebook to Pinterest, but Facebook is still king of social media,” the infographic notes. Twitter with 80 percent followed by LinkedIn with 70 percent.
Next on the list is blogging which has 58 percent of marketers saying they use the platform. This is followed by YouTube, the video sharing juggernaut by Google. Another Google property, Google+, is next with 42 percent.

Google+ is followed by Pinterest at a close 41 percent. There are more platforms used including photo sharing platforms (e.g. Instagram – 18 percent), social bookmarking (e.g. StumbleUpon – 10 percent), podcasting (5 percent), question and answer sites (4 percent), and daily deals (4 percent).

Social media marketing and social selling

Meanwhile, when it comes to single most important platform, marketers overwhelmingly choose Facebook when asked (49 percent). Next are LinkedIn (16 percent) and blogging (14 percent) followed by Twitter (12 percent).

The infographic notes that 4 percent of marketers say YouTube is the most important social media platform for them. 2 percent choose Google+ while Pinterest, forums and others all got 1 percent.

When it comes to reasons cited by marketers for their use of social media, increasing exposure takes the lead at 89 percent. This is followed by increasing traffic (75 percent), providing market insight (69 percent), developing loyal fans (65 percent) and generating leads (61 percent).

Other reasons include improving search rankings (58 percent), developing business partnerships (54 percent), reducing marketing costs (47 percent) and improving sales (43 percent).

According to this infographic, 62 percent of companies that spend 40 or more hours a week using social media earn new business through their efforts.

Just six hours a week can make a difference as more than 92 percent of marketers indicated that their social efforts increased exposure for their businesses.

At least 61 percent of businesses with 10 or fewer employees agreed that social media reduced marketing expenses while only 38 percent of businesses with 1,000 or more employees said so.
However, only one in four marketers can directly measure return of investment for their social efforts, the infographic says.

How to Find New YouTube Content

Youtube-channel-searching

YouTube is pretty incredible. Surf from cat video to amateur vlog to high-quality episodic show in just a few clicks, all under one network.

Of course, with billions of hours of video available to chose from, how does one go about tailoring his interests and finding the people who create that great stuff? While extensive YouTube searches can help fix your bike or tie a Windsor knot, a television-like experience that offers a stream of entertaining content requires more work.

If you arrive at the YouTube's homepage with no clear search goals in mind, it can be difficult to discover something new. The best way around this? Subscribe to several channels and find great YouTubers. But if you're struggling to start, Mashable will guide you to finding quality video creators, no matter what your tastes.

Start With the Big Names

YouTube has its celebrity set — if you are a frequent reader of Mashable, you probably know some of them — and they are a good place to start. You can check out the 100 most subscribed channels to get an idea of what's popular on YouTube. The most popular stuff seems to fall under a few categories: comedy, gaming, style and music videos, with strong showings by a few brands and publications.

If you don't see any from a category that interests you, check out our guides for standout YouTube channels for home improvement, fitness, sketch comedy, travel, beauty and cooking.

Once you've found a few you like, check out the sidebar on each channel page. It features channels that user has recommended or subscribed to. You'll find great suggestions there.

YouTube is a solid community first, and most video creators interact with each other through comments, likes, subscriptions and even video shout-outs.

YouTube-Channel-Recs

If you want to get even more granular in the YouTube community, your "My Subscriptions" tab on the left side comes in two categories: "Uploads Only" and "All Activity." The first shows you the new videos that channel has uploaded, but the "All Activity" tab displays all the comments, likes and new subscriptions from every YouTube channel you follow. Is this overwhelming? Yes, but it's a great place to find channels and videos you've never seen before.

YouTube-Activity-List

Get Social

Aside from useful ways to find content within YouTube's walls, you may also have to explore other social networks to find content you're interested in.

If you're already plugged into Twitter, finding your favorite YouTube channels there will ensure you not only stay updated, but also follow who they retweet and share content from. If you're hooked into Google+, you can see videos your friends share from the "Social" tab on the left side of the page.

There are also a few great YouTube-focused blogs that highlight up-and-comers, including New Media Rockstars and TubeFilter.

Plus, check out the very active r/YouTube subreddit, where creators share videos and talk tips for maintaining their channels.

Watch, Share and Interact

Unfortunately, there is no quick fix for finding great YouTube content at the moment, so you'll have to get your hands dirty and dive in.

Because YouTube is so social, inevitably, watching videos will surface new YouTubers. Plenty of personalities guest star on each other's channels, across all kinds of interests, and videos can sometimes daisy-chain off each other. Plus, the web produces an infinite number of trends; YouTubers are bound to respond. Take the biographical video trend "Draw My Life." Once you discover a popular video topic, you'll find other participants.

The best thing to do is start exploring — there's no wrong way. And don't get discouraged by all the content. While there might be a lot of crap on YouTube, you'll find the best, most relevant stuff by staying active.

Instagram Accessible To The Blind

A YouTube video has shown how a blind man can enjoy using Instagram to take photos, edit them, caption, and share the results.

Tommy Edison is blind but has been using the photo sharing app to capture images. Although he cannot see what they look like, he gets plenty of interesting comments on what he’s posted and how they look.

With the help of the “accessibility” feature on the iPhone, Edison can make Siri read out to him every button that he touches. The app itself, filters to select, and where to share the photo are all read aloud amongst other things.

The pictures can then be captioned by using speech recognition to complete the process. Instagram app availability for the visually impaired is just one example of how social media is expanding to be accessible for everyone.

Tommy Edison also has a YouTube channel where he discusses “the fun parts of being blind” as well as performing other general day to day actions.

This is one of many apps that are accessible to blind people with one app using data from Foursquare to help those who are visually impaired the find their way around the streets.

Tommy Edison’s Instagram profile can be found at blindfilmcritic.

What do you think of apps and social media being accessible for the visually impaired?

YouTube Videos On Your TV Made Easier

youtube

YouTube are making it a lot easier for users to be able to watch YouTube videos on their television with just the click of a button.
Video sharing site YouTube have been working on the idea of watching videos from their site on your television screens with just one click since 2010 and today have taken the next step.
With an update to the YouTube app for Android and Google TVs, these two devices will automatically be synced on the same WiFi making the videos appear on your television screen.
Just find a YouTube video on your app for Android, click on the TV icon, and instantly the video will begin to play on your Google TV.

YouTube on Google TV Screenshots

Using your tablet or mobile phone as a remote, you can then pause, skip, and scroll while the video plays on your TV. Because the devices are connected in the cloud, you can do other things whist your video is playing as well such as search for the next video or browse the web.
Although this will only  be available on Android apps and Google televisions at first, YouTube are asking for people to stay tuned to see this feature coming to more devices and screens in the future.

What do you think of this development?

Google Refuses to Remove Anti-Muslim YouTube Video

White House officials on Friday asked YouTube to review an anti-Muslim video cited as fueling violent protests worldwide, but according to The New York Times, the Google-owned site doesn’t have any intention of taking it down.

Google told the publication that the “Innocence of Muslims” video does not violate terms of service for YouTube regarding hate speech because it is focused on the Muslim religion and not the people who practice it. Although Google put up a temporary block on the clip in Egypt and Libya due to local violations in those countries, it still remains accessible to most worldwide.

The 14-minute video, which was a trailer for an upcoming “Innocence of Muslims” film thought to be created by an American man — upset the Muslim community for insulting the religion’s Prophet Muhammad. (Note: Early reports pegged the filmmaker as “Sam Bacile,” a supposedly Israeli-American real estate developer living in California. However, certain details didn’t add up: There’s no licensed real estate developer in California with that name and Israeli officials denied his existence.)

The video has also been credited as contributing to global protests, including the attack on the U.S. consulate in Libya, which resulted in the deaths of four U.S. citizens including a U.S. ambassador, and igniting other protests across the globe.

Google’s decision to not comply with the White House’s request is in line with a company policy from 2007 that said it would consider laws, local policies and culture when deciding whether to remove or restrict a video.

“One type of content, while legal everywhere, may be almost universally unacceptable in one region, yet viewed as perfectly fine in another,” Rachel Whetstone, senior VP for communications and public policy at Google, said in the policy. “We are passionate about our users, so we try to take into account local cultures and needs.”

YouTube’s Community Guidelines “encourage free speech” and “defend everyone’s right to express unpopular points of view.” However, it does not allow “hate speech,” which the company defines as “speech which attacks or demeans a group based on race or ethnic origin, religion, disability, gender, age, veteran status, and sexual orientation/gender identity.”

The Obama administration initially “reached out to YouTube to call the video to their attention and ask them to review whether it violates their terms of use,” Tommy Vietor, spokesman for the National Security Council, told the Washington Post.

UPDATE: The original version of this story said it was believed that the filmmaker was an American-Israeli man, but it has since been updated to reflect that authorities now think a false identity was used.

Online Marketing Videos - Why Invest In Them

Online marketing videos have become an important piece to a business' website. Gone are the days when people thought that using videos to promote a product or service online was just a luxury. To give you an idea on the important role that online videos have on your business, here are some of the benefits that make them worth investing in.

Helps You Connect With Your Customers

Businesses always want to establish a connection with their clients and there's no better way to do that than through an online video. What sets this apart from other mediums is that video lets you connect with your customers on a more intimate level. See, with videos, your customers get to see a person talking. Even though there's no actual conversation occurring between the person in the video and the customer, the fact that your clients see a person gives them some sort of reassurance that your company and business is real. With the influx of websites trying to con people into buying fraudulent items, having a video on your site gives them peace-of-mind knowing that you're a professional and you won't try to pull a fast one on them.

Makes Your Website Look More Professional

Even though your website is loaded with information, images, and a good design, having a video embedded in it gives it a more professional appeal. Remember, not all websites have videos talking about their company or their products. All they rely on is the text they've placed describing what they're all about. By having a video telling your customers who you are and what you can do, you increase the professional appeal of your website because it leaves the impression that you have the budget and the know-how to have one made.

Provides A Cost-Effective Way To Advertise

Advertisements are costly - that's a fact. It's one of the many reasons why not a lot of companies have an ad on TV, radio, or print. However, with the popularity of websites such as YouTube or Vimeo, companies now have a medium where they can post videos about their products without paying a premium. Plus, because the videos will be made available online, it can be accessed by a huge number of viewers not just in a certain area but globally as well. It definitely has a farther reach compared to the standard print, TV, and radio ads.

Optimizes Your Website Making It Rank Higher In Search Engines

Search engines such as Google, Yahoo, MSN, and even AOL prioritize websites that have videos embedded in them. This makes the use of videos an integral piece to a company's SEO campaign since it offers another way for a business to help boost their website's rankings online. By combining the use of video with your other internet marketing strategies, you'll get to drive in more traffic, which in turn, will lead to more revenue for your business.

Google loosing traffic with Social Media

Did you kow that in the US and UK there are more visits a day to Facebook.com than to Google.com?

I was not surprised when I saw the statistics, and it seems that Google.com is not anymore the most visited site online.
The same is happening with Twitter and Youtube as Twitter has taken 30% of the searches on Google, 30% of the people that used to search on Google now are searching on twitter search and Youtube is already the second biggest search engine.

Surprise surprise... what can we expect in the next 12 months?

Youtube and Wikipedia down

I was just uploading a video about our Social Media Bootcamp and Youtube went down, if you really want to know the news at that moment and know if it is you, your computer or really something has happen, all you need to do is go to Twitter Search and you can get there all the tweets about that specific thing, in this case "youtube", its amazing, you get more updated news from Twitter than from the websites of the newspapers or even the BBC.

Wikipedia was down yesterday as well, many theories about why thta happened but we don't know yet.
